Old Camera Battery Update.
I read a while back that batteries for the Leica M240 cameras (of which I have three variants) were no longer in stock at any retailer in the USA and had been "discontinued." I almost panicked but I caught myself and instead called to the guys at Leica Store Miami (I have no affiliation with them other than the service they provide aimed at driving my net worth lower and lower, quarter by quarter) and availed myself of their Leica expertise. Yes, the batteries have been discontinued as a stock retail item. They are no longer showing up in stores' inventories.
BUT! They are available as "replacement parts" from Leica. I had the stalwart men at LSM order me two of them and I braced myself for the "long Leica pause." I anticipated arrival sometime in 2025 --- if my luck held.
Imagine my surprise when I got a note from the store this morning telling me that the batteries had arrived and that if I would only pay for them they could send the batteries out right away. Today. Now.
And frankly I was shocked when I remembered that they ordered $430 worth of batteries for me without asking for payment in advance for what was clearly a special order.
I complied and, if my luck holds, I'll have two brand new batteries to use with my favorite cameras. I'll have eight BP SCL-2 batteries in all. Two are as recent as earlier this year. The two fresh ones are coming imminently. And four are of various vintages having come with used cameras. Should be enough to see me through until photography ceases to be a thing altogether.
Need some batts for your M240, M240 M-E, M262, M240 monochrom, or M240-P? You can order them from Leica through a dealer. Oh joy!
This has been a public service announcement for Leica M240 users. You are welcome.
