The Eric Rose Variation of the Iceland Lighthouse. Just for something different.

Well done. And I had no idea a G9 file could be made into such a nice black and white...

  1. I'm glad you like it! I didn't use some canned preset, but instead looked at the colours in the image, decided what I wanted them to look like and went into the Black and White adjustment tool in PS. Fiddled about until I got what I wanted. Took about 3 minutes.

  2. I prefer this monochrome rendition to the colour version. This evoques a sense of isolation, exposure to the elements and the original purpose of the structure, chill of a still winter day waiting for the dusk and the darkness to come which will be punctuated by the lighthouse. The colour version on the other hand is cozy and warm, a lazy summer afternoon with perhaps a cool sea breeze alleviating the oppressive heat. Somehow the lack of vegetation and shade make me feel that it isn't somewhere I want to rest as I would feel the heat too much.

Superbly seen and rendered subject, I like them both a lot; makes me think and feel and that's what art is all about. Thanks for all your posts, well done.

First comment on your new blog - had to chuckle at the instructions.
Hope all’s going well with moderation.

Back to the topic at hand - nice touch with the photographer down on the fence line, and presumably the subject at the edge of the frame. Very well planned ;~)

  4. I like the idea (big fan of BW) but there's something strange about the image. There's something odd going on with the outer edges of the main part of the building; looks like it's a cutout. The sky is really rough and there's some haloing on the edge of the roof and upper left of the tower. Has great potential but needs cleaning up.

  5. Should have checked the colour image before I opened my big mouth. The black lines are in the colour image so it's not an artifact of the BW conversion. Apologies!!!

  6. I preferred your color rendering of this scene. But I gotta say that the building's slightly sloping lower roof combined with the slightly sloping sight makes me feel a bit drunk looking at the building from that angle. [hic]

If your comment sucks I won't post it. If it doesn't make sense I won't post it. If I disagree with your premise you've still got a shot...so go for it.
If you want to be a smart ass and argue with me don't bother. If you have something smart to say then WELCOME. If you tell me I must be nice and well mannered toward stupid content on other people's blogs please don't bother. I'm self censoring. But in a good and happy way. Your shaming probably just sucks... Have a nice day.
