An interesting article on Sir Elton John's World Class Photography collection. And, incidentally some prints from the collection will be at London's Victoria and Albert Museum this year!

over 7,000 of the finest photographs in the world. That's what's in the collection.
very cool that someone cares enough to collect the really interesting stuff. Along with the popular images.
The article is a good read.
I saw the exhibition at the V&A museum last week. It is a remarkable selection of photographs - many familiar ones, but many more which were new to me. If Nan Goldin’s work resonates with you (me, not so much), there is a small room just filled with her prints. The range and volume of work in the exhibit as a whole is very impressive. I spent about 2 hours there, and felt that more time would have helped. If you’re in London while the exhibit is open, it’s certainly well worth a visit.
ReplyDeletePeter, thanks for the mini review. It's tempting to go to London just for the show. KT
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip - I can see the show in September.
ReplyDeletev&a expanded their photography area fairly recently I think, maybe it's worth checking their programme for other events like talks etc if you're thinking about a visit, the link on your other blog to this one is to one post I just noticed, if visitors are sparser than you'd like, might be that they aren't landing on the page with new posts...
ReplyDeletelondon also has the photographers gallery which hosted the daido moriama retrospective recently, took over the whole place, there are a bunch of other photo galleries too
Thank you for posting this, Kirk. It's a fine article, and looks like an astounding show. Almost enough of a reason to plan a trip to London, just to be able to see it... Damn.
